Professional Organization

Hello is Carlos and I am going to write about professional organizations, but to begin with, what is a professional organization??? Well by definition it is a non - profit organization seeking to further a particular profession, the interests of individuals engaged in that profession, and the public interest. So now that we know the definition, why join a professional organization??? Everybody agrees in that when we exchange information we grow as citizen and professional. That could be the most noticeable reason, but what about establishing networks and career opportunity .........yes it sounds like you are taking advantage of this unique experience, but it is all about making connections. Yes it is important to share information with colleagues but you need to be social and interact with everybody.
I remembered once in a TESOL conference in New York I met the supervisor of the Language Center but of Lack land Air Force Base in Texas, San Antonio. "Everybody knows me I am very shy and timid" so I made a good impression and he told me that as soon as I finished my Masters Degree to called him and he gave me his personal card. This is exactly what I am witting about, is not to take advantage in a bad way it is to be an opportunist. You have to be ready when opportunity knocks at the door, because it might not knock twice.

Lesson Unit: Grammar Translation

General Goals:
Students will be able to:
· Identify various Spanish and English vocabulary words.
· Translate Spanish text in to English using bilingual dictionaries.
Specific Objectives:
This grammar translation lesson would be suitable for an ESL class of Spanish students after reversing the language roles, putting emphasis on using the Spanish to learn the English.

Instructional Sequence:
Students will be given a list of vocabulary terms in English and Spanish to read over and memorize.
An extremely brief oral “check” for pronunciation would follow although the grammar translation approach does not focus on oral fluency development.
The student is going to translate a small paragraph from Spanish to English using the vocabulary words.
Assessment Based on Objectives:
Students will be assessed according to their ability to correctly translate the text from one language to another. A quiz, the following day, will assess students’ memorization of vocabulary terms. Informal observations by the teacher will also be used to evaluate the students.

My Educational Philosophy

Hello intelligent people, hope you like my philosophy.

Educational Philosophy

My educational philosophy is based on the pragmatic theory by John Dewey. I chose this great philosopher because I believe in his strategies and methodology. I am a practical person and I want to teach for a practical purpose. I want to apply useful and suitable activities in the ESL classroom, where the student is going to learn by doing. The student acquire knowledge that will prevail if the information useful to them in everyday activities.
The school is responsible of providing the materials and environment to enhance the student’s educational experience. The teacher’s role is to stimulate the student’s mind with activities that create the need to learn. The teacher, maintaining group control, is a facilitator and a guide in the classroom. The teacher responsibility is to challenge the student intellectually with different activities that will help with the acquisition of a second language.
I use this philosophy to guide my educational classes in my classroom. I believe that the student’s learn by using the standard skills, but in activities that present daily and common situations. My vision is to bring the outside problems and situation to the school. The school should not be excluded from the society; it is part of the society. The students need to actively participate in the academic development. I strongly believe this is why many students lack the motivation to learn English.
